3PAR® is committed to reducing both the energy requirements and the environmental impact of storage. For years, 3PAR has been an industry leader in developing green, thin technologies that promote sustainability by increasing storage efficiency and reducing energy consumption. By bringing green storage to enterprise datacenters throughout the world and incorporating green practices into our day-to-day operations, 3PAR is helping reduce the environmental impact of global business.

The 3PAR environmental policy includes the following green practices:
3PAR Carbon Neutral Storage Program
With the Carbon Neutral Storage program, 3PAR customers can effectively deploy 100% carbon neutral storage. Through this program, 3PAR augments the inherent energy efficiency of our Utility Storage platform by purchasing carbon offsets for every terabyte of disk capacity sold with 3PAR Thin Provisioning.
To date, 3PAR has purchased carbon credits to offset 4,367 metric tons of CO2 emissions through this program, which was the first of its kind when launched in 2007. In addition, in 2007 3PAR awarded three of our customers—IAC, Edelman, and CACI—with the "Think Thin, Think Green" award and 1,000 additional carbon offsets
in recognition of their capacity-saving efforts and green storage practices. Read more
Internal Waste and Energy Conservation
Within our own organization, 3PAR participates in the following conservation efforts:
- Recycling of paper, cardboard, glass, plastics, aluminum, and tin
- Fluorescent light collection and de-processing
- Collaboration with California-based utility PG&E on designing energy-efficient air-conditioning
- California Restriction of Hazardous Substance (RoHS) compliance and participation in an approved CRT collection and de-processing program
Green Manufacturing and Compliance Practices
3PAR's hardware engineering and manufacturing practices reflect our environmental policy of implementing green practices into all aspects of our business. This includes participating in the recycling of 3PAR products and components.
- 3PAR contracts an ISO 14000 certified third-party service provider to sort, reclaim, and recycle 3PAR products and their components (plastics, PCBAs, and sheet metals)
- 3PAR products are marked in accordance with the European Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) directive
- 3PAR Products are EU-ROHS compliant and Japan Green Law Compliant
Innovative Product Design
3PAR hardware
and software
products are designed from the ground-up to reflect our dedication to reducing the negative environmental impact of storage. This principal drives the research and development of our products.
- Hardware products, including the InServ Storage Server, are designed to deliver increased storage efficiency and reduced energy consumption
- With software products such as 3PAR Thin Provisioning, our customers were able to realize a worldwide combined annualized energy savings of approximately US $6 million
in 2007
- Through our Carbon Neutral Storage program, 3PAR customers have reduced C02 emissions by nearly 11,000 metric tons to date—the equivalent of taking 2,100 cars off the road
- 3PAR has eliminated the use of restricted substances in all product designs to reduce negative impact to the environment
- 3PAR works internally and with key suppliers to reduce the total energy required for assembly, disassembly, and testing of our products
Environmentally Conscious Packaging
3PAR collaborates with suppliers to reuse packaging. The company also designs its own product packaging to be reusable and recyclable. In addition, 3PAR provides pick-up services from customer sites for reuse and recycling of our packaging.
Employee Participation in Environmental Programs
3PAR also supports the following programs to encourage conservation by employees:
- Employee recycling services and battery collection
- Participation in the local Spare the Air Day program at our headquarters in Fremont, California, to increase air quality and reduce pollution
